CME INFORMATION

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, thoracic surgeons and other allied healthcare professionals.

GLOBAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Develop an evidence-based algorithm for the referral of appropriate patients with localized non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) for participation in clinical trials examining the utility of biologic therapy in combination with standard neoadjuvant and adjuvant systemic therapy.
  • Create optimal protocol and nonprotocol management strategies for patients with locally advanced Stage III NSCLC, incorporating the concepts of induction chemotherapy, concomitant chemoradiation therapy and the role of consolidation regimens.
  • Employ multiple sequential treatment approaches for patients with de novo or recurrent advanced NSCLC, based on an understanding of:
    - The benefits and risks of combination and single-agent chemotherapy regimens.
    - The relevance and impact of advanced age and compromised PS on selection of therapy.
    - The current data on EGFR- and/or VEGF-inhibiting agents.
  • Utilize currently available biologic and clinical markers to predict response to targeted therapy.
  • Select appropriate prophylactic and/or acute clinical management approaches for patients experiencing toxicities associated with VEGF, EGFR and multikinase inhibitors.
